How do you audit what AI says about your company?

Quick answer

An AI audit polls each major engine with a defined prompt set about the brand, executives, and topics; categorizes themes and sources; benchmarks against peers; and flags accuracy gaps and risk areas.

An AI audit is the diagnostic delivered as a one-time analytical product, distinct from continuous monitoring. It answers a specific question – what is AI saying about us right now, and what should we do about it – in a form a CCO can act on. The structure is consistent across audits, running through four stages.

Vertical flow of the four stages of an AI audit: 1) Prompt set covering brand, executives, products, themes and peers; 2) Execution running.
Anatomy of an AI audit: a one-time diagnostic that runs the same four stages — prompt set, execution across the eight major engines, analytical layer, and a deliverable pairing raw findings with prioritized interventions.

The four stages of an AI audit

  1. Prompt set – a defined set of prompts covering the brand, named executives, key products or services, relevant themes and issues, and named peer companies.
  2. Execution – the prompt set is run against the eight major engines: ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, Perplexity, Claude, Grok, Google AI Overviews, and Google AI Mode.
  3. Analytical layer – the responses are worked through across themes, sentiment, source attribution, peer comparison, accuracy gaps, and identified risk areas.
  4. Deliverable – a report that includes both the raw findings and a prioritized list of interventions.

How it gets used

We deliver audits routinely as standalone engagements, as the starting point for ongoing programs, and as new-business material for PR firms bringing AIQ into prospect conversations. A CCO reading the deliverable should come away knowing not just where the brand stands across the engines, but which interventions will move the picture and on what order of priority.
