A digital reputation fire drill is operationally distinctive because it tests the digital response specifically, not just the press response. The scenario is realistic: a credible event the company would actually face, scripted with enough detail that the team must make decisions under partial information. Companies that drill consistently develop response muscle that shows up clearly when real situations arrive.

The five phases of a digital fire drill

1. Detection, The drill runs through the actual monitoring tools: IMPACT alerts, AIQ topic shifts, and social monitoring. The test is whether the right signals surface fast enough for the team to act.
2. Decision, Tests whether the right people are reached quickly enough and whether decision authorities are clear. Gaps here are almost always in handoffs between functions rather than within any single function.
