What is reputation triage and how do you prioritize during a crisis?

Quick answer

Reputation triage prioritizes by leverage and durability, not emotional intensity: page-one Google results first, then AI narrative threads appearing across three or more engines, then Wikipedia framing, then social amplification, and individual outlet responses last.

Not every crisis fire needs to be fought, and the wrong ordering wastes the first week. Our triage runs by leverage and durability rather than by emotional intensity, ranking each front by how much stakeholders actually see it and how hard it is to dislodge later.

Reputation triage ladder ranked 1 to 5 by leverage and durability, not emotional intensity: 1 page-one Google results, 2 AI narrative.
Reputation triage ranks fronts by leverage and durability rather than emotional intensity: page-one Google results first, then AI narrative threads consolidating across 3+ engines, then Wikipedia framing, then social platforms still amplifying, with individual outlet responses last as the least durable.

The five priorities, in order

  1. Page-one Google results for the priority queries; they are what stakeholders will actually see, and they tend to be the most durable layer.
  2. AI narrative threads across three or more engines, three engines is the threshold at which a story consolidates and becomes hard to dislodge later.
  3. The Wikipedia article, Wikipedia framing flows directly into AI engines and Knowledge Panels.
  4. Social platforms where the story is still picking up amplification.
  5. Responses to individual outlets, often left for last because it is what the comms team is naturally drawn to first, yet it usually has the least durable effect for the time invested.

The ordering is deliberate: the highest rungs combine the most stakeholder visibility with the most durability, while the lowest rung absorbs effort that rarely holds. Working the list top-down is how the first week of a crisis gets spent where it actually moves the picture.
