What is IMPACTNews?
IMPACTNews is a forthcoming Five Blocks tool, scheduled for public release later in 2026, that extends the IMPACT methodology to the Google News tab - tracking which outlets rank, how the news SERP is composed, and how coverage shifts over time.
IMPACTNews is the news-search counterpart to IMPACT, the Five Blocks SERP-tracking methodology. It focuses specifically on the Google News tab and is scheduled for public release later in 2026.
The reasoning behind it is straightforward: the news tab now runs on its own logic, with its own competitive dynamics, so a reputation program that tracks only the main Google results page misses an entire vector of coverage.
What IMPACTNews tracks
- Outlet ranking – which news outlets are surfacing for a given keyword in the News tab.
- News SERP composition – how the page is built, including top stories, smaller news boxes, and video carousels.
- Coverage over time – how a topic’s news footprint moves and shifts as the story develops.
Availability
IMPACTNews is not yet generally available. Public release is scheduled for later in 2026.
