Wikipedia notability is defined by its own community policies, primarily WP:NCORP for organizations, requiring significant, in-depth coverage in multiple reliable independent secondary sources. Five Blocks conducts a structured notability assessment first and tells you directly whether your coverage clears the bar, falls short, or sits in a gray zone that warrants a deferral.
Before recommending whether to pursue a Wikipedia article, Five Blocks conducts a structured notability assessment, a review of your existing third-party coverage measured against Wikipedia’s own published policies. Notability is not a Five Blocks judgment; it is a community standard that has been refined over two decades of editorial practice.
The policies we assess against
- WP:NCORP, the corporate and organization notability guideline, which applies to firms. It requires in-depth independent coverage in reliable secondary sources, and explicitly excludes press releases, routine business announcements, sponsored content, and wire-service syndications of company announcements as evidence of notability.
- WP:N (general notability guideline), the baseline standard that applies to all topics: significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject. Wikipedia’s own policy notes there is no fixed number of sources required, since sources vary in quality and depth.
- WP:RS (reliable sources), sources must be published, professionally edited, independent, and have a reputation for fact-checking. A company’s own website, social media, or press releases do not qualify.
Three possible outcomes of the assessment
- Coverage clearly supports notability, We propose an article and move into the disclosed conflict-of-interest (COI) creation process. Wikimedia Foundation terms of use require paid editors to disclose their employer, client, and affiliation; Five Blocks operates fully within this framework.
- Coverage is close but uncertain, We identify the specific gaps and recommend either a deferral until coverage strengthens, or a strategy for building authentic third-party coverage before attempting the article.
- Coverage clearly does not support notability, We say so directly. An honest assessment up front prevents a predictable deletion downstream.
The assessment is the right first step because submitting an article that lacks sufficient sourcing risks deletion through Wikipedia’s Articles for Deletion (AfD) process, which is a public record and can itself become a reputational issue.
