How AI Describes Data Centers
This November, Five Blocks is sharing more research than we ever have: more than 10 new studies, built with data from AIQ and IMPACT, our own platforms for tracking what AI engines and Google say about companies and their leaders. We would love your feedback. If there is research you are doing, or research you would like to do together with us, get in touch. See all #DataNovember studies.
#DataNovember, Day 2: industry spotlight. We asked eight AI engines six questions about data centers every day in September 2026, and the same questions about pipelines, fracking sites, nuclear plants, wind farms and solar farms.
What we found
- 83% of answers about data centers and their neighbors are one-sided criticism, the same share as oil and gas pipelines. Solar farms: 35%.
- Even the good news comes with a “but”: 7 in 10 answers on economic benefits add a counterpoint. Solar farms: fewer than 2 in 10.
- Industry trade groups were cited in 0 of 238 answers to the neighbors question.
- Tax breaks come up in 2 of 3 neighbors answers, and nondisclosure agreements in nearly 1 in 4. Almost no other industry gets either.
- On community concerns, ChatGPT gives balanced answers. The other seven engines were one-sided in nearly every answer we rated.
- Data center companies’ own websites appear in none of the 476 community answers.
