Our Wikipedia article was deleted. Can it be recreated and how do we avoid deletion again?

Wikipedia’s deletion process is final unless the underlying conditions have materially changed. Two legitimate paths exist for a previously deleted article, and the right choice depends on why the article was deleted in the first place.

Step 1: Diagnose why the article was deleted

Before choosing a path, review the original deletion discussion to identify the rationale. Common reasons include failure to meet Wikipedia’s notability standard (insufficient reliable, independent, secondary coverage) or procedural problems in the deletion discussion itself. The diagnosis determines which path is viable.

Step 2: Choose the correct path

1. Deletion review (WP:DRV), A formal request asking the community to reconsider the original deletion. Use this when:
   • The deletion discussion had substantial procedural errors (for example, undisclosed sockpuppets participated), or
   • Significant new notability information has emerged since the deletion that would justify undeleting the page.

   WP:DRV is not an appeal mechanism for disagreeing with the outcome; it requires a concrete procedural flaw or genuinely new evidence.

2. A new draft through Articles for Creation (AfC): A substantively different article, built on materially new reliable secondary sources that postdate the original deletion and address whatever notability gap the deletion rationale identified. When submitting:
   • Acknowledge the prior deletion in the draft or submission notes.
   • Disclose any conflict of interest (COI) or paid relationship.
   • Ensure the new sources are genuinely independent secondary coverage, not reframings of the same material that was previously insufficient.

   AfC routes the draft to an uninvolved reviewer before it enters mainspace, which avoids the immediate re-deletion risk.

What to avoid

• Direct recreation without new evidence. Wikipedia tracks deleted articles. Recreating a sufficiently identical copy triggers speedy deletion under WP:G4 (recreation of deleted material), often more quickly than the original, because the prior deletion is already on record.
• Reframing the same sources. Presenting the same coverage under different framing does not satisfy the notability bar. The sources themselves must be new and must address the gap the deletion identified.
• Undisclosed COI. An undisclosed conflict of interest causes an AfC submission to be flagged and often declined. Disclosure is required under Wikipedia’s terms of use.
