What is Five Blocks’ position on black-hat reputation management tactics?

Five Blocks does not engage in black-hat reputation tactics. The ethical line is operationally durable as well as principled: tactics that violate platform policies are increasingly detected by the platforms themselves and reversed, which makes them a liability rather than a shortcut.

Tactics we do not use

Fake or paid reviews

Fabricated or sentiment-gated reviews engineered to inflate a rating.

Link schemes and link networks

Private blog networks, paid link exchanges, and other links created primarily to manipulate search rankings.

Cloaking

Showing search engines different content than the content shown to human visitors.

Undisclosed paid Wikipedia editing

Editing on behalf of a client without the disclosure that Wikipedia’s terms of use require.

Manipulated structured data and fabricated coverage

Falsified schema or invented third-party articles staged to look like independent validation.

Why these tactics get reversed

• Google detects and devalues manipulated link patterns through algorithm updates such as Penguin; sites that violate the spam policies may rank lower or not appear at all.
• Review platforms identify fake-review patterns through fraud detection, and regulators (such as the FTC) now treat fake and sentiment-gated reviews as prohibited manipulation.
• AI engines weight authoritative sources over manipulated content, assembling answers by ranking sources on authority signals rather than volume.
• Wikipedia reverses undisclosed paid edits, tags the article, and can sanction or block the account behind them.

The reversal is itself a reputation event
