How does a typical engagement start?

Quick answer

A discovery call to understand the situation and goals, followed by a diagnostic review of the current digital landscape, then a proposal with scope and a Letter of Engagement. Work starts once the Letter is signed.

Every Five Blocks engagement opens the same way. The first step is a discovery call where we listen to what the client is trying to achieve, what has happened so far, and what success looks like. We do not pitch on that call. The second step is a diagnostic review: we use IMPACT™ and AIQ to map the current digital landscape, including the brand’s Google results page, Wikipedia status, Knowledge Panel, the AI narrative across the eight engines we track, the sources the engines read (not the engines themselves), and standing against named peers. The diagnostic shows the work that actually needs doing, which is rarely what the client expected at the outset. The third step is a written proposal with a defined scope, timeline, pricing, and a Letter of Engagement. Work begins once the Letter is signed. The full opening process typically runs two to four weeks depending on how deep the diagnostic goes.
